3 (a) Solve any three :
A body at temperature 100°C is placed in a room whose temperature is 20°C and cools down to 60°C in 5 minutes. Find its temperature after 8 minutes.

3 (b) Voltage Ee-at is applied at t=0 to a circuit containing inductance L and resistance R. Show that current at any time t is \[ \dfrac {E}{R-aL} \left ( e^{-at} -e^{\frac {R}{L}t} \right ) \]

4 (a) Solve any three:
The charge Q on the plate of a condenser of capacity 'C' charged through a resistance R by a steady voltage V satisfy the differential equation
\[ R\dfrac {dQ}{dt}+ \dfrac {Q}{C}=V. \\ If\ Q=0 \ at \ t=0, \ show \ that \ Q=CV \left [1-e^{-t/RC} \right ] \] Find the current flowing into the plate.

4 (b) A steam pipe 20 cm in diameter is protected with a covering 6 cm thick for which the coefficient of thermal conductivity is K = 0.0003 cal/cm.deg.sec. Find the heat lost per hour through a metre length of the pipe, if the surface of the pipe is at 200°C and outer surface of the covering is at 30°C.

4 (c) A tank initially contains 50 litres of fresh water. Brine containing 2 gm per litre of salt flows into the tank at the rate of 2 litres per minute and the mixture kept uniform by stirring runs out at the same rate. How long will it take for the quantity of salt in the tank to increase from 40 to 80 gm.

4 (d) A body starts moving from rest is opposed by a force per unit mass of value cx and resistance per unit mass of value bv2, where x and v are displacement and velocity of the particle at that instant. Show that the velocity of the particle is given by \[ v^2 = \dfrac {c}{2b^2}(1-e^{-2bx})- \dfrac {cx}{b}. \]
