ABOUT THE BOOK

Basic Thermodynamics by Prof.P .K. Nag is suggested as textbook for studying the following subjects:
Basic Thermodynamics in Mechanical Engineering Semester 3 (Visveswaraya Technological University)

Basic And Applied Thermodynamics 2nd Edition is a textbook that comprehensively covers the fundamentals of Thermodynamics. This edition is revised and updated. Students will find the explanations, illustrations, solved questions, and problems sets to be very useful in understanding the subject thoroughly.

Summary Of The Book

Basic And Applied Thermodynamics 2nd Edition, is an updated and reorganized version of the previous edition, with new chapters and updated subject matter. This book introduces readers to the basics of Thermodynamics, and it’s real-life applications.

The first eight chapters of the book focus on temperature, heat transfer, the First Law of Thermodynamics, the Second Law of Thermodynamics, entropy, and available energy. The next two explain the properties of pure substances and gas mixtures. The eleventh chapter presents the Third Law as well as the thermodynamic relations between properties. Basic and Applied Thermodynamics 2nd Edition then moves on to a detailed analysis of power, refrigeration cycles, psychrometrics, irreversible thermodynamics, and more. It is the only book that combines both Macroscopic (Classical) and Microscopic (Statistical) Thermodynamics. Some new chapters in this volume are Gas Compressors, Internal Combustion Engines, and Gas Turbines and Propulsion Systems. Updated topics include air washers, multi-evaporation systems, air conditioning systems, refrigerators, and expansion devices.

Basic And Applied Thermodynamics is filled with solved problems, short questions, exercises, and illustrations. A total of 228  solved examples, 591 problems, 641 review questions, and 65 multiple choice questions are a part of this textbook. The author has written this book for both students and instructors. A website link is provided in the book to keep readers updated on latest developments in the field of thermodynamics.
