Manufacturing Process 2 in Mechanical Engineering Semester 4 (Visveswaraya Technological University)
Elements Of Workshop Technology (Volume - 1) is a popular guide which provides a compact yet comprehensive picture of manufacturing technology.
Summary Of The Book
Workshop technology includes the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable a person to perform basic workshop tasks. Manufacturing and workshop practices have become an important part of the industrial environment.
This edition of Elements Of Workshop Technology (Volume - 1) describes the various topics of the manufacturing process. The authors have included chapters on the layout and safety and also the machining processes. Focus is also on threaded fasteners, plumbing, and joints.
Beginning with a general introduction, the book goes on to explain important fundamentals of alloys and metals. Chapters have been devoted to ferrous and nonferrous metals, and their alloys. The properties for testing and inspection of the metals is also given importance.
The authors have covered other important topics of workshop machinery like the heat treatment of the metals and alloys, forging and smithing, powder metallurgy, wood and wood workings, welding, and other such processes. Limits, fits and surface quality, pattern making and foundry surface coating of metals, and measurement and inspection are also discussed.
Ceramic and glass processing, quality control, and sheet metal work are also elaborated on in this edition.
The authors have added two new chapters, one of which is a chapter on the machining process and the other, which is on plumbing and joints. Many new diagrams have also been added.
Richly illustrated, Elements Of Workshop Technology (Volume - 1) helps readers understand even difficult concepts. The appendix and the index are also beneficial to students.
Published in 2009, the book is a useful companion for students of mechanical engineering and workshop technology.
