An attempt has been made to widen the background of this book a new chapter on materials has been added dealing mainly with metals but including a brief introduction to polymers. The chapter on lubricants has been expanded to include more specific information and brief descriptions of new process developments have been added to each chapter.The main theoretical development in this decade has been in the widespread use of digital computers and in the recognition that material properties should be included in analytical models. A new chapter outlining the numerical methods for solution of metalworking problems has been written with critical guidance on their relative merits and applicability.
