Deep Education Society’s SAS Institute of Management, Boisar(W)

Location:

Deep Education Society’s SAS Institute of Management is located in Boisar, but unfortunately, it isn’t too close to the station. Thinking of taking a rickshaw on a daily basis is madness – they cost a lot. You do, however, get pretty frequent MSRTC buses and share autorickshaws from near the station to Saidham Complex, which is fully residential (apart from the college, of course). Moreover, with the extension of Western Railways to Dhanu, travelling to the college via local trains have become much simpler. Of course, you need to know the train timings as missing a train might cost you an hours wait.

Infrastructure:

Situated right inside the huge Saidham Complex, SAS Institute has a decent infrastructure when you consider that it’s located in a rather remote area far far away from Bombay. The building is decent, nothing is air-conditioned of course, but everything is well-maintained. The computer labs are well equipped and the entire building is wifi enabled. The girls hostel is still under construction, but the college provides flats to girls within the complex itself. Boys hostel has been built in the adjacent complex, Amrut residency.

Fees & Placements:

The college has a sanctioned intake of 120 students. The fee is  Rs. 92,000 per year. Hostel charges for lodging are as low as 22000 per year to benefit students from other locations.

2 batches have been passed out and the placement scene is decent. College claims that 74 companies have approached the students of SASIMS though a consultant college has hired. College also claims that there were couple of international placements happened in SASIMS. Every new college struggles initially to attract companies, however, SASIMS trying to capitalize MIDC Boisar next door which has a number of potential employers like TATA, Jindal, Viraj, etc. It is too early to comment on anything related to the placements but the college is very optimistic about 100% placements within the next couple of years.

Faculty and Industry Interaction:

The college offers an MBA degree in Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations and Systems. Though much can’t be said about the faculty, the guest lecturers are pretty good, since a number of them work in the MIDC area and are executives of big companies like Pantaloons, Mahindra, etc.

Crowd & Campus Life:

There’s nothing especially good or bad about the students. Most students are from Boisar and the surrounding areas, which means they aren’t from the greatest educational or socioeconomic backgrounds. But they all get along pretty well together, fortunately, which is more than what you get in some of the more sophisticated places.

Festivals:

SAS College has been organizing Deepfest for the last 2 years. Surprisngly, Hero Motocop has been a main sponsor for last 2 years. College authorities and some students claim that over the next few years, the festival and events will be on a much larger scale and the participation might increase tenfold.

Verdict:

SAS Institute of Management is relatively a new college in the B-School circuit. Interactive Seminars, Over-Moderate Placements, Various Events and Overall Crowd are the vital things that the management should seriously consider. Location might be an hindrance for students travelling from South Mumbai, Central Mumbai and some parts of the Western Suburbs yet the hostel facilities might come as a big surprise.

Hi Sid ( I guess thats your name),

Thanks for writing a balanced piece. Just wanted to update you on few happenings in last couple of years.
I guess your comments are at least 2 years old.
Annual Event - College has been organizing Deepfest for last 2 years. SASHERO is part of Deepfest & Hero Motocop has been a main sponsor for last 2 years.
Institute is now focusing on students from across the country. We are capitalizing on Mumbai University brand. By doing this we will be able to attract good quality students and naturally good students gets good placements
