Fergusson College, quite popular as FC, is located on the most famous, happening and crowded street of Pune, FC Road. One can imagine the popularity and the magnanimity of the college as one of the streets of the big city is named after the college. Most students prefer to commute by their respective two wheelers or some big shots by even cars, while the rest use the public mode of transport, PMT buses, whose frequency is excellent and drops you to the gate. What better accessibility can you expect?

Infrastructure:

Fergusson College which is 125 years old is known for its ancient classy look. The campus is spread for almost 2-3 kilometres. Having said that, it still lacks in the infrastructure. There are no AC classrooms and laboratories. Students often complaint about some equipments missing, some devices not working, etc. Sadly, social network lovers have to pay attention during the lectures as there in no Wifi in the college. FC provides facility for hostels but is generally given to students who have passed with first class. Discrimination!

Faculty:

Well, the faculty at Fergusson College is A1, we mean it’s excellent. This 125 years old college is definitely known for its mind blowing teaching staff. Most of the teachers are PhD’s from great universities in the country and the States, while some have detailed industrial experience. Some students find some teachers annoying, stubborn or in educational language, STRICT. But, that’s a part and parcel of all the colleges in the world and can be ignored. Most of the teachers communicate in English, broken English (obviously), and some in Marathi.
For obvious reasons, communication skills of the Arts faculty are spell-bounding.

Attendance:

Well, at FC you get the freedom to bunk, not literally. Attendance of around 50%-60% is tolerable below which you’ve to either pay a fine or get your loving parents to the principal’s cabin. Compared to other Pune colleges, Fergusson has the advantage of attendance provided the relations with your respective subject teachers are pretty friendly and understanding.

Crowd:

Well, we are talking about one of the best colleges in the state. Undoubtedly, the college has students from various backgrounds, from different cities of India and outside the country too. You can meet students who are big time nerds to classy studs and cheeks. Most importantly, the students are pretty smart and intelligent. One of the FC-ites quoted, “They’ll be working for the college festival rigorously any you find that the same students are the toppers in the exam”

Hangouts:

In one word, FC Road! From hundreds of restaurants and cafés to multiple road side stalls/tapris, you get every possible thing here. Students are usually seen at the very famous Vaishali and Rupali restaurant, followed by the expensive coffee chain in India, Mocha. There is a sandwich and roll waala at a stone’s throw away distance from the college gate which is extremely famous among the student’s community. When you’re at FC, you need not worry on the past time.

Canteen:

Fergusson College’s canteen is not at all up to the mark. Though the food is pretty economical, the taste and the variety is not what you would expect in any college canteen. A group of students said that the association should look into the matter and make a new, clean and tasty canteen.

Festivals:

The annual cultural festival of Fergusson College, Urja, is held in January. The festival is pretty famous in the city and students from different courses and streams participate.

Placements:

Big and renowned MNC’s like Nissan, Google Quickheal, Cummins, etc come to the FC campus to recruit students from various backgrounds. Generally, the Science students are eligible for placements, while the companies for Commerce stream are hardly any. The pay package can be anything from around 2-4 lakhs depending upon the company. One of the MCA students got a whopping 7.5 lakhs.

Verdict:

Even though canteen and infrastructure are not up to the mark, the legacy and history of the college makes these flaws negligible. 125 years old, Fergusson College is highly ranked in the city of Pune and would be the number one choice for any student. A dream college for an average scorer.
