Projects :
- Final Year Project : Adding Interactivity to e-Learning Animations via Gesture Recognition at IIT-B. Device using the Arduino micro-controller, accelerometers and gyroscopes to track hand movements. The Blender software is used to render these gestures virtually. Using this system, teachers can create virtual laboratories and perform experiments to give students thorough understanding.
- Project at SINE IIT : where I undertook a course on embedded systems. I created a Prothrombin Time (PT) test device based on ATmega128. PT is the time needed for plasma to clot. By measuring the time taken for blood coagulation, one can determine whether a patient is fit to undergo surgery
Technical Papers : None
Letter of Recommendations : One from Assistant Professor, Dept of Electronics and Telecommunications (also the project guide), one from Senior Lecturer (subject taught by him is the same as subject I wanted to pursue for MS) and one from a Professor from where I pursued a course on my desired subject and internship.
Extracurriculars: Nothing out of the ordinary
Work Experience/Internship: None
Financial Aid : None
Preparation
I had taken tuitions at IMFS for Verbal and Maths. “Words” was the major area which required persistant practice and learning. We had to carry the flash cards to almost every place we went for the two month study period. If I got bored I involved my classmates to study words together, that helped in remembering words by setting an example to each word. Solved notes provided by the classes, Barrons, Princeton, Cambridge, BigBook for Verbal were the few materials used while studying.
I took the GRE on 24th August 2010 and I feel that July-August period is somehow ideal. I had also opted for counselling services and did realise half way that it was not at all worth it and everything could have been managed anyway. So counselling “NOT RECOMMENDED”.
Advice to Juniors
Research about the Universities yourself, don’t go on by what people say. Make your Resume better by adding papers, internships and projects to show your dedication and focus to the subject you want to pursue.
