Issues encircling college and education expressed purely as Students' Opinions.

Maharaja Surajmal Institute (MSI), Janak Puri

Location:

Maharaja Surajmal Institute (MSI) is located in Janak Puri area of west Delhi, and the closest metro to reach the college would be, Janak Puri East, metro station on the Blue line. Although the college is at a 15 minute walking distance and is a Rs.10 bus ride from there. But apart from that getting to the college is not difficult as you get buses, and grameen seva RTV’s to get to the colleges. DTC bus routes 711, 724, 753, 740 and 863 can drop you right outside the college.

Infrastructure:

The building as of now does not shine in its full grace, as the building has now got quite old, and it needs upgrade soon. The students even complain of cleanliness in the campus. They have a decent library that is common with all the other departments, and other courses. But the only bad thing about the library is that the books are difficult to find, and there is no kind of a system to manage the books available. Although the library has a lot of room for students to sit ad study, but own reading material and own books are not allowed inside, so you can’t study there most of the times. Internet is available but is slow, and there is wifi in the campus. The computer labs required are good, and are equipped with the latest copies of licensed software.
The college provides separate hostels for guys and girls, which is decent and students from Ladakh, Kolkata and various other places, stay in the hostel and find it satisfactory. There are sports facilities, and students, especially the hostel-ites, make full use of the grounds.

Courses Offered under IP University:

The college offers BCA, BBA, BBA (B&I) and BBA (TTM) all in 2 shifts i.e morning and evening.

Fees:

Its roughly around Rs. 65,000 per year.

Faculty:

The faculty is well educated and qualified. Although the faculties do not comprise a lot of senior and experienced teachers, but again, dedicated they are. And they always try hard to give all the knowledge they have to the students. But certainly there is no professor that is especially popular among the students, and who is worth a mention here. Some teachers are not even good at communication. The junior professors generally are bad ‘teachers’ as the lack the very required teaching experience. But the very same junior professors are better friends with the students, and it’s easy to connect with the students.

Attendance:

Attendance at MSI, everyone knows, is a big issue. You’ll feel like a school when at MSI. University norm set at 75% has to be strictly followed. You can’t go below that mark, even citing medical problem, forget bunking lectures when fit and fine. And worse case, if your attendance fall till 65% or so, you are made to sign a bond, saying that you would compensate for the less attendance in the next semester. If it’s extremely low, there have cases where students have been detained. Even during the classes, you’re allowed late only for like 10 minutes after the class has begun.

Crowd:

Here the students come from a very diverse backgrounds, so in all the crowd you can say is an absolute mixture. You’ll see nerds, and you’ll see people who don’t know what course they’re even doing. So basically you will most certainly find your type of people around, and making friends will be not at all difficult.  Most of the students are from Delhi itself, that too from Janak Puri area.  There is a decent chunk of students from south delhi side too. The girl to boy ratio is a decent, 40 to 60. Even for the girls the area around the college is safe. But boys here are well behaved and are far from being rowdy, guys don’t get involved in fights inside or outside the college. And regardless of saying, after the anti-ragging law, ragging is banned.

Canteen:

The college has a very famous cafeteria, but sadly no meals are served there, so you might want to carry your own lunch. But the fast food served is occasionally good and but cheap nevertheless. Aloo Paratha (which is very filling) cost only Rs.15 but a more relieving piece of information is that another canteen is being constructed, and is expected to be much better.

Hangouts:

when you get out of the college, there is nice big park, right opposite the college, which is certainly the most popular hangout among the students here. People even go to the Janak Puri District Centre (DC) where there are a lot of eateries like CCDs’ Baskin Robin, Pizza hut. That’s about it, people generally don’t venture very far to hangout after college.  At times, you can even go to Rajouri Garden, where there are a lot of malls, and cinema halls around there.

Festivals:

No festivals are celebrated at the college, as the authorities do not allow celebrations of any kind. So basically without festivals, the environment of the college always remains dull, and students do not like it. But well, there is B.Tech MSIT festival also for the rescue, which fails to deliver as well.

Placements:

The placements at the Maharaja Surajmal Institute, is anything but bad. Almost 90% students get placed on-campus every year. Companies recruiting here are: IBM, Daksh, ICICI, Wipro, TCS, iGate-Patni, HCL and more. Mostly the packages offered lie around Rs.20,000 a month. And the job profiles generally offered to freshers' are BPO kinds. Also students’ who do not opt for Jobs, have other plans, that include MBA, CA and CS.

Verdict:

It’s not going to be like a college here and it’ll be like a school. Following rules and discipline is very important here, and you can’t avoid them.

What a boring place to hangout. Crowded with bunch of foolish students. No place to enjoy in the campus but outside campus it's better.

Its a boring college, boring crowd and boring faculty. I wake up in the morning and go to college just coz my mom shouts "attendance kam ho gayi to dekh lio" :)
I now know what makes a college a top college - Make it even stricter than school with no place to hang out around.

It's an average college. Crowd's boring, only a few decent chicks. Guys are pretty okayish to chill with. Campus looks like a school campus. Oh and never ever even think of using the college washrooms.
There are places to chill around college but with that said don't expect a good crowd cuz after all it's janakpuri.
One good thing about the college is value of its reputation.
