Location:

Poona College is located in central Pune’s Camp Area which has excellent connectivity with all parts of the city. Travelling, thus, isn’t an issue here. Nearly half the students commute by the local PMT buses, a very high ratio as compared to other colleges in Pune where most of the student prefer their own two-wheeler.

Infrastructure:

Campus is big (Smaller compared to Azam campus in the neighborhood) but it’s sufficient enough. There a small open area which Is bound by a ledge on which students sit in their free time. Classrooms are roomy, and the computer labs are facilitated with internet access. It’s a lively campus!

Faculty:

All the professors in the Science department are well experienced. Communication is mostly in English and the students are quite satisfied with the teaching. The commerce faculty is even better.

Attendance:

For the science students it is very strict and the mandatory requirement of 75% needs to be fulfilled every month. Failing which you are declared a defaulter, and letters may be sent to parents. If at the end of the term you still fail to make up for the low attendance, you are not allowed to appear for the examinations.  It’s relatively less strict for commerce students, who can get through with 50% attendance.

Crowd:

The crowd is disciplined, nerdy to an extent but friendly nevertheless. There is a 50% reservation for students belonging to the Muslim Community.

Hangouts:

Its Camp baby..!! There are abundant places to go around, and many a times you’ll find your group in a fight, over where to go and where not to. Having said that, you have to first escape the attendance trap set by the college.  Some popular location being GS Mall, MG Road, Goli Bar Maidan (cricket and other sports), Kayani Bakery, Nucleus, SGS.

Canteen:

The common canteen is big and spacious, and serves awesome Chinese food. Its so good that azam campus students also come here to enjoy it. The rates are not exactly economical (sada dosa comes for 25 bucks) There is a separate canteen reserved for Girls.

Festivals:

Comp-Fest is a festival organized by the computer department but any student can participate. It is held in the month of January. Other smaller gatherings are held throughout the year.

Placements:

For BCA/BCS: College is said to have good placements although they don’t manage  to place 100% students.  The students are offered Rs.25000-30000 a month, from companies like IBM, Wipro, Zensar.

Verdict:

Its one of the best colleges in Pune, for Commerce, definitely among the top 10. It’s good for science as well the only issue being the attendance.
