Bombay Veterinary College (BVC), Goregaon
Location :
The BVC undergraduate campus is located in Goregaon East, between Aarey Milk Colony and Mahananda dairy on the Western Express Highway. Its a 10 minute bus/auto ride from Goregaon station (W.Rly.), but is also accessible from Jogeshwari(W.Rly.). Being on the highway there are close to infinite buses running that drop you right outside the college.
Infrastructure :
The campus is huge, it officially spans 145 acres, and includes a girls' and boys' hostel. The classrooms are clean, the labs well stocked, and its easy enough to learn your way around. A farm is included as part of the campus, its used to give the students some level of experience with the course.
Courses Offered under the Maharashtra Animal & Fisheries Sciences Universities (MAFSU):
- B.Tech (Dairy Technology)
- B.V.Sc.& A.H.
- Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.)
- Ph.D (Veterinary Science)
Faculty :
The faculty is a fairly mixed lot, with some excellent teachers who really know their subject and love to teach it, and some who aren't as good. Overall, its fairly decent, and the efforts of some teachers make up for the lack of others. Exam papers get repetitive, with questions used in the past being used ever other year or so. Extra help is provided to the students who require/ask for it.
Attendance :
Attendance isn't a problem in the first year, but from the second year onwards 75% attendance is compulsory. Student who fail to maintain this aren't allowed to give the exam for that subject in that semester, and this can be a problem during the finals where an aggregate score is required.
Crowd :
The crowd is surprisingly good. As long as people go in with no preconceived notions and an open mind, they shouldn't have any trouble finding a set of friends that will last a life time. There is some level of segregation between the day-scholars and the hostelites, but that doesn't usually cause too much trouble.
Canteen :
The canteen can get monotonous with its small and repetitive menu, but its a definite improvement from the days when the college didn't have a canteen at all. Its clean, the food is always served hot, and the prices very cheap.
Hangouts :
A mall, The Hub is across the road from college. Apart from a few high-end restaurants like China Ming and Golden Chariot, the mall houses McDonald's and a food court whose prices vary from downright cheap to slightly expensive. Very close to college is a place called Om Sai which serves regular fare like dosas, etc. and a place called Gurudev Lunch Home which has pretty good (but seasonal) seafood at dirt cheap prices. And there's a theatre in the mall too.
Festivals :
The two most popular festivals are 'Nazarana' (music) and 'Spandan' (music, dance, drama, fashion shows, dog shows, etc) and participation is enthusiastic. Apart from this, the college encourages its students to participate in inter-college fests covering various fields.
Placements :
The students shouldn't depend on the college for placements. Usually students start volunteering at clinics/the hospital in the 3rd year, and future jobs come out of that. The college does however have a few student exchange with other colleges in and out of the country, although getting selected for them requires flattering certain members of the faculty.

Verdict :
For someone who is absolutely certain that he/she is meant for this course, its perfect. It may require some level of adjustment, but its definitely worth it, especially since its the best of all 4 veterinary colleges located in Maharashtra.
