Confused over engineering specialization, Edify Labs is here to help!

Student Articles

Issues encircling college and education expressed purely as Students' Opinions.

CAYMET’s Siddhant College of Engineering (SCE), Talegaon

Location:

Siddhant College of Engineering (SCE) is situated in a remote place called Sadumbare Gaon which is about 20 km from city of Pune. Reaching here from Pune is quite cumbersome as there’s no direct PMT bus to the college. You have to hop 1 or 2 buses depending on where you’re coming from & the bus frequencies are terrible. Also these buses drop you about 1.5 km away from where you have to walk-up till college. College also provides a bus facility but only those students who are coming from Pune make use of it. Charges for this service are 7000 to 12000 depending on distance. However a major chunk comes from nearby areas like Pimpri, Chinchawad, Nigdi & Talegaon & they travel by their own or friends’ bikes.

Infrastructure:

The campus is large in size but it’s neither very impressive, nor very pleasing to eye. In fact some parts are still under construction. Class rooms are just about passable, labs are decent and a the college also has a surprisingly spacious seminar hall. There’s no major complains regarding the academic infrastructure.

There are also a couple of hostels for boys and girls in the campus. Hostel charges are Rs.15,000 per year.

Fees:

Rs.77,000 per year.

Faculty:

Siddhant College of Engineering has average faculties. However, students are happy for the fact that at least sufficient teaching staff is available which is often not the case in many engineering colleges in Pune which have cropped up in recent times.

Attendance:

75% is the university norm for attendance and college gives up to 5% relaxation in that. Those who fall short have to make it up by paying fines. No harsh action is known to be taken against defaulters.

Crowd:

Crowd is varied. Students hail from different areas of Pune, outskirts of Pune & different parts of Maharashtra like Mumbai, Latur & Aurangabad. Expect a good number of rural crowds too from the nearby areas of Talegaon, Maval & Dehu. Also expect more number of north Indians due to reservations of seats for Hindi speaking community.

Canteen:

There’s a canteen, a café & a hostel mess as eating options. Hostel mess remains open 24 hours. But a ‘Nana canteen’ is more famous among students.

Hangouts:

Nothing is extremely close-by. Students sometimes visit Bhandara hill or Dehu gatha temple.

Festivals:

Technotsav, Megahertz, Tech Gage are the main festivals that are arranged at Siddhant College of Engineering.

Placements:

As the college is relatively new, placements are not that great. But companies have started visiting the campus for recruitment and placement cell is putting in good efforts to get more companies. Hopefully in a few years scenario will improve a lot.

Verdict:

Siddhant College of engineering (SCE) is a good bet for those ending up with low marks in the entrance exam. Although far from city, it has decent infrastructure, helpful faculty & with the placements improving over time.
