Preparation:

I had my GRE examination in March 11, so I started with preparation in December. Though actual studies picked up in January. I never liked English ( since school ), so always ended up preparing quant and would be fun solving. I ended up preparing only 15 boxes of words and eventually scored just 510. I was unfortunate of getting quant section first and with maximum probability questions, it got difficult in a short span, but could manage 790 as I had attempted max correct questions in the beginning.

My GRE examination was on 24th March 2011. Ideal time is March as you don't have pressure of submissions-vivas-examinations, if unfortunately you land up scoring less, you can always retake in june/july/august.

Counselling opinion:

NO ! They ruin your wallets and energy. The best people to guide you are your seniors.

SOP Advice: Many students ask the counsellor to write the complete SOP and without even the student's opinion, these are sent to US universities. SOP is something which will expose your feelings, as why you want to do MS, and a counsellor shouldnt be the last option also to write.

I stressed on entrepreneurship, as this is something i always want to pursue. Initially my counsellor wrote it for me, but it was simply TERRIBLE. I took a pen and paper and started noting all the points as what i feel about why i wana do MS, what change it will bring in, why this univ, my achievements. After this task, a few good friends which good vocab and grammer, and helped me frame sentences, cut short irrelevancy. I emailed more than 15 seniors in US and they gave their suggestions with editings. This is how my SOP was done, it was tiring but i learnt that it is YOU who should write your own SOP

Reasons to choose Current University:

Cornell University - Electrical Engineering
Cornell University is a IVY league and a highly ranked university. The research work going in bio-electronics and energy management is amazing out here. Secondly Cornell is very flexible with its management credits and Johnson school of management being highly ranked with an amazing entrepreneurship culture. I prefer Cornell over other schools.

Advice to Juniors

Its not just GRE that will decide your fate, your academics and profile matters a lot. So try participating in competitions, do internships and above all, do research in your area of interest. Write your own SOP (every feeling of yours should pop out), do not be scared to apply in the ambitious univ if you have a good profile (remember, you are just applying once in lifetime)
