Location:
Basava Academy of Engineering is located on a hillock; a few miles off the Gangondanahalli main road in Nagasandra. The road to the college is full of potholes, barren land around and a couple of small shady houses. Sadly, that’s the only road. BMTC buses drops you on 8’th mile (that’s an area) on the main road and then one has to use some mode of transportation to get to the college. Walking is impossible. Bus frequency to 8th mile is pretty good. Unfortunately, the buses that drop you right outside the college come in every hour. Only a couple of students come by bikes. Overall, the location isn’t impressive and not easily accessible as well.
Infrastructure:
In one word, AWFUL! The 3 storey college building is situated on a never ending, not literally, barren land. It looks like a small lodge at the first glance. Broken aluminium benches, lack of fans and tube lights, uncleaned and dusty classrooms and windows without a glass are the terrible drawbacks of the infrastructure. Fortunately, there are books in the library in sufficient quantity and of the latest edition. There are internet labs but no access to use it. Students have complained about the horrifying state of the college but the management has turned deaf ears towards them.
Hostel availability is only for boys where three of them have to share a room. The facilities are as bad as the infrastructure. Moreover, one of the hostel buildings is now given on lease. Hostel rent is around Rs. 18,000 per annum excluding the mess facility.
Fees:
For Karnataka CET students: Rs. 33,090/- per year
For UGET (COMEDK) students: Rs. 1.25L per year
Faculty:
Some teachers are knowledgeable and experienced while the major chunk is inexperienced. Students aren’t satisfied with the teaching staff. Software subjects aren’t taught well neither the practicals are conducted properly. Fortunately, HOD’s of all the departments are well versed with their syllabus. Teachers don’t take out any personal grudges/favouritism by giving less/more term work marks and evaluate purely on performance basis. Yes, you can expect a friendly rapport with your teachers at Basava Academy of Engineering.
Attendance & Discipline:
Basava Academy of Engineering follows the strict 85% norm regulated by the VTU failing which students have to pay a fine of Rs. 100 per subject. Lower the attendance, higher is the fine. Thankfully, nobody is detained.
Crowd:
Well, there are more students from Karnataka but less from the city of Bangalore. In every batch you can expect to meet a healthy number of students from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Girls are rare in the core stream as well as in ECE, CS and IS. Students are from a simple middle class background but are less enthusiastic.
Canteen:
It’s as good as not there.
Hangouts:
Nothing around for a few kilometres. Total Mall on 8th mile is probably the only hangout.
Festivals:
None.
Placements:
There are no campus placements at Basava Academy of Engineering. Students try for the pool campus in other colleges.

Verdict:
Don’t join unless you’re left with no option (which you will not be; and if you are then take a drop and try next year). Almost all the parameters needs to be improvised for Basava Academy of Engineering to come up in the average league of engineering colleges in Bangalore.
