Balwant Sheth School of Architecture (BSSA), Vile Parle
Note:
Balwant Sheth School of Architecture is affiliated to Deemed-to-be university of NMIMS and conducts its separate admissions based on NATA scores.
Location:
Balwant Sheth School of Architecture is located in “the famous Mithibai college”. It is at 10 minutes’ walk from Vile Parle station (western and harbour railways) and you don’t need any landmark to reach here as the college is a landmark in itself.
Infrastructure:
Balwant Sheth School of Architecture is allotted 5th floor of the building and you can use the lift to reach there. The infrastructure is excellent equipped with most modern facilities like air-conditioned lecture halls, brilliant exhibition room, well lit studios and amazing interiors. There is wireless and wired internet connectivity at your disposal whenever you need it. The library is well stocked and maintained. There is still some construction going on to revamp some sections. The only thing lacking here is a playground and there is no campus. However there are enough indoor recreational facilities to compensate for it. Overall infra is A grade and students rate it is 9/10.
Fees:
Rs 2.3 lakh per year (Yes you read that right, it is rupees two lakh & thirty thousand per year only. A bit too much for a 5 star hotel like infrastructure isn’t it?)
Faculty:
Almost equal numbers of permanent and visiting faculties teach at Balwant Sheth School of Architecture. All are pretty good. The professor taking Architectural Design (AD) is really worth a mention and highly popular among the students.
Attendance:
The college tries to appear strict to the first year students but you can manage by attending 60% of the lectures. Second year onwards they insist for 75% attendance in practicals but are reluctant when it comes to taking any solid action.
Crowd:
About half the crowd is from Mumbai while remaining are from various parts of India and some are even NRIs and foreigners. Most students are from well-to-do families and create a lively and cheerful atmosphere in the college. The best part about the crowd (for the boys) is that there are almost 4 times the girls as much as boys.
Hangouts:
There are a lot of hangouts around the college including fine dining restaurants, fast food joints, street food, smoking corners, cinemas, cheap cinemas, Dominos, McD’s, Subway and Prithvi theatre to name a few. And there are a lot of other SVKM managed colleges where you can meet your friends or taste the food from their canteen to find out how it tastes just the same. Basically you can spend your entire college life with your commerce friends without attending a single lecture.
Canteen:
There’s one food counter at the end of each floor where you can grab a quick bite of your favourite fast-food or have Maggi. The main canteen is common for all the courses and it’s on the ground floor. It is quite spacious and serves all type of food items. The food is invariably tasty but it’s not exactly cheap, anyways no one here really cares about the cost.

Verdict:
This is a good choice for who those stay in Juhu or Lokhandwala area, are determined to do architecture and can afford the very high fees of the college. The college also helps in getting internships with renowned architects and interior designers.
