Engineering Admissions
This is probably the one part of engineering nobody looks forward to. The grueling, tiresome admission process probably confuses even the men who came up with it. Of course, we here at Stupidsid have simplified it for you.
Now, the whole procedure is under a central system called CAP (Central Admission Process). Not exactly ‘whole’, considering that the following colleges are currently NOT under CAP; they have their own admission procedure :-
NOTE: Autonomous Colleges like VJTI, COEP, SGGS, WCE, SPCE having their own CAPAI process till 2011 have been clubbed into the CAP from the year 2012-13
Nearly all the Engineering Colleges in Delhi come under the IP University (IPU) which apparently has a pretty straight forward admission procedure. However, there are a couple of highly renowned colleges (and dozens of not-at-all renowned institutes) which do not fall under the ambit of the IPU and follow separate admission procedures.
Professional Course colleges in Bangalore admit students on the basis of their performance in three different exams depending on what course and category they wish to apply.
1. Karnataka CET - for Government seats in Engineering, Medical, Dental & ISMH Colleges
2. UGET - for COMEDK seats in Engineering, Medical and Dental Colleges
3. NATA - for Government as well as COMEDK seats in Architecture Colleges.
Now depending on which seats/exam you wish to apply through, you have to follow one or both of the following processes:
Most of the engineering colleges in Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar are affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU). Admission to all the engineering & pharmacy colleges under GTU are centralised and conducted online by Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC).
Private colleges like DA-IICT, PDPU & CEPT are not under GTU and hence, they conduct their admissions individually. Nirma University fills its 50% seats by ACPC. It conducts a separate admission procedure for 35% all India category seats. And the remaining 15% seats are under NRI quota.
Admissions to all the professional courses in Andhra Pradesh are done on the basis of EAMCET score. Colleges under JNTU & Osamnia University (OU) follow a common, centralised process for admitting students. Major part of this process was conducted online for the years prior to 2012. But in 2012, it was carried out offline via physical counselling.
This year, however, it is expected that entire counseling process will be held online once again, as they have made it mandatory to register for EAMCET online at www.apeamcet.org
There is a separate procedure for BITS Pilani, Hyderabad.

All the engineering colleges in under Anna University admit students based on PCM marks in class 12. Admissions are counducted via a centralized counselling system conducted by Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) authority. Some private colleges like Vellore Institute of Technology (Vellore & Chennai campuses) and SRM University have their separate entrance tests and admission procedures.
Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test (ISEET), starting from 2014, is the death knell to gazillion engineering entrance tests all over the country including prestigious IIT-JEE & AIEEE. It comprises of two separate tests: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main & JEE Advanced (only for JEE Main qualifiers) for admissions to all the government & private engineering colleges.
