Issues encircling college and education expressed purely as Students' Opinions.

Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini

Location:

Located far in Northwest of Delhi, Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS) is a management college in the region of Rohini. Although it's basically located in Rohini, Rithala metro station on the Red line is the nearest station and is at a stone’s throw distance from the college. DTC buses run with an average frequency to the college. Fortunately, metro feeders and Gramin seva (three wheeler tempos) drops you to the college from the nearby areas of Rohini. In short, accessibility to the college ain’t a problem.

Infrastructure:

JIMS, Rohini (as it’s popularly known) has a small yet green campus. There’s a tiny garden right at the gate of the college followed by a so called playground where you see 90% of the students chilling most of the times. The college building has a unique spiral staircase which is rarely seen in any Delhi college. The air-conditioned classrooms have good comfortable benches. Although the library is air-conditioned, there is shortage of books most of the times. The washrooms are pretty dirty yet the cleaning staff is ignorant about it. Thankfully, the campus is Wi-Fi enabled and thus academic and non academic activities that need the internet, run smoothly.
The college doesn’t provide any hostel facilities.

Courses Offered:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
  • Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA)
  • Master of Computer Application (MCA)
  • Post Graduate in Diploma Management (PGDM) Programme, Retail & Marketing and International Business

Fees:

Approximately Rs. 70,000/- per annum (will vary with the course)

Faculty:

Faculty at JIMS, Rohini, is pretty average and has nothing much to boast. Maths professor is pretty excellent and students love their lectures. Probably, that’s the only faculty which the students are always in awe of. Apart from this, the rest are pretty new and lacks enough experience. There is a blend of nascent and qualified cum experienced teachers in the MBA and MCA departments. “Overall, don’t expect a high quality teaching and get habituated with whatever you get”, quotes one of the students.

Attendance:

75% is compulsory failing which students have to sign an affidavit saying that they’ll complete the remaining attendance. Having said that, attendance still isn’t very strict and the atmosphere is chilled out round the year.

Crowd:

Delhi and NCR belt comprises majority of the crowd at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini. Boys outnumber the girls in count, though the latter are in good numbers. Overall, the crowd is friendly and believes in enjoying life more than anything in this world. Well, we would say, GOOD! Obviously, studious crowd is rarely seen in the college and ‘coolness’ is the mantra of the crowd.

Hangouts:

Metrowalk and Adventure Island are the standard places where you see students loitering around as they are bang opposite the college. Location is a big hindrance in terms of hangouts and thus student have to travel for far to Delhi’s last resort, Connaught Place.

Canteen:

There’re two canteens in this small campus of JIMS, Rohini. One is especially for junk food and for obvious reasons it is very crowded. The second canteen serves good, tasty and edible food but lacks in variety. The canteen is suffocating most of the times because of space constraints, cramped tables, and dozens of students.

Festivals:

'Oasis', the cultural festival of Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, is held in October.

Placements:

Companies like Hero Motors and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) are the standard recruiters in the Rohini campus of JIMS. Following these giants are Accenture, HDFC Bank, Religare and many more. Despite so many companies coming to the college, not everyone gets placed. Students of the MBA and MCA department have better job opportunities than BBA and BCA. The average pay package offered is something around Rs. 4 lakhs per annum with around 60% of the students getting placed.

Verdict:

For those who want to enjoy and play around during the graduation days, Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini is probably an ideal college for them. High fees and location is an issue for most of the students, yet a friendly crowd makes this college a good bet for any average scorer.
