Hi,
I am santosh in my prefinal year. applying for mechanical engineering. Have a gpa of 8.9 and yet to take toefl.
I have a research intern at a national lab and also am doing a UGC sponsored project ( for pre-final years)
Should i improve my gre score to apply for top colleges ?
I am planning to apply to the following colleges:-
1) Virginia Tech
2) Univ of maryland
3) Purdue Univ
4) Univ of michigan-ann arbour
5) Penn state

GRE scores matter alot less than what we think they do. Your applicant is excellent otherwise, and the GRE score certainly isn't bad either. Go ahead and apply, hopefully you should get into one of these. Make sure you write a strong SOP and get good recos.

Thanks a lot :) I am currently doing my aerospace here at India. I want to shift from aero to mechanical.
Will that pose any difficulty ?

Shouldn't really be much of a hindrance, but you'll definitely have a higher chance of a good admit if you stick to aerospace itself. Why switch now?

I want to focus on vibration and structural materials. The course is more widespread in mechanical engineering than what is being offered under aerospace engineering. Also if I do mechanical engineering, I would have a wider range of job opportunities than what I would get under aero :-)

Yes, that sounds reasonable. Make sure you write a strong SOP, explaining why you want to switch from Aero to Mech.
