hi Parinita,

Nearly everyone aspiring to do engineering from Bangalore faces this doubt! Autonomous colleges are better than the non autonomous ones in the sense that there's more freedom attached as all policy decisions are taken by the college itself with little interference from VTU. So exam timetables, academic calender, results and of course holidays are all planned in advance and are executed well. Plus you get a little more time for other activities as the holidays are generally longer.

Apart from this, those who fail to clear the exams in the first attempt do not waste a year and are allowed to reappear for exams in the holidays tht follow.

Another advantage is of relative grading which means that no one is given absolute percentage scores. Exam results are based on not only your performance but also the performance of your colleagues, so if a difficult paper is set, everyone gets low absolute marks but the final report card shows a much better aggregate. This is perhaps the biggest advantage

Hope this helps... all the best...

Ah and for the list of colgs, you see the college reviews ka page on stupidsid.com

Hey Parinita while autonomous has a lot of advantages, there are some down points too. One, they are free to collect fines for every tiny little things (and they precisely do that). also teachers are all powerful due to autonomy and there can be some serious misuse of power for which you just can't do anything. But on the whole plus points overrule down ones and autonomous colleges seems much more lucrative than their counterparts.

In easy words...
You must be knowing that a UNNIVERSITY comprises of several colleges near around its regions!! Those colleges under that particular UNIVERSITY are said to be non-autonomous colleges, as they follow guidelines, rules & regulatotions, time-tables and everything executed by that particular UNIVERSITY.
Ex- Mumbai University, Pune University, North Maharashtra University and many more...they have many colleges running under them.

While an autonomous college is independent can say it is an university in its own. It has its own rules & regulations executed by the members of "Board of Meeting" of that particular college!!!
