Like hundreds of engineering institutes in the country, St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) falls behind when it comes to providing admirable teachers. First years experience satisfactory teaching in more than half the subjects but in the later years the quality of education deteriorates severely. Except the CSE department (and the IT department to some extent), all other departments are said to have an acute shortage of good teachers. Some even face trouble communicating in fluent English and often switch to regional languages.

St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure, exactly as depicted on their website. Labs, classrooms, library, Wi-Fi and every other academic aspect is superbly maintained. Sports amenities may not be as good, but it's manageable. Air-conditioned hostels for girls and boys are in the pipeline, too.

St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) claims to have placed around 100 students into companies like Google, HCL, Chevron, Omega Maritime, etc. from the first batch that passed out in 2011. However, final year students beg to differ alleging that hardly 20-25 of them actually got their call letters. The college is still in its nascent stages and the real picture will be clearer only after a couple of more batches pass out.

St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) is located on the outskirts of north-Hyderabad, about 6 kms from Kompally and 25 kms from Koti. Frequency of RTC buses up to Kompally is excellent but as thousands of students are headed to the 20-odd engineering colleges in the area, buses are overcrowded. People are seen hanging on to whatever part of the bus they can find with a constant fear of being pushed down. Moreover, the last 5-6 kms from Kompally have to be commuted in share-autos. College buses are more convenient but 10 times as expensive. However, first years claim that even after paying over Rs. 15,000 they aren't assured a seat as there's a lack of buses.

There are 2 canteens in the campus. The main canteen is expensive yet doesn't serve tasty food. So, the obvious choice is the other canteen which is small but serves a variety of food delicacies at reasonable rates.

Owing to a severe lack of interesting places around the campus, most people prefer taking a ride all the way to Kompally, where they can find everything from movie theatres, fast food centres, ice cream and juice parlours and even Go-Karting and billiards.

Students at St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) fare better than the average JNTU-H scorers and are thought to be great at academics and sports. People from Hyderabad are more than those from semi-urban areas of the surrounding districts.

'SPEC-Fiesta' is a small technical-cum-cultural festival celebrated at St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) sometime in February or March. It witnesses little participation from surrounding colleges but SPECians enjoy this only time of freedom from college rules.

At St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC), students claim to have experienced how their grandparents felt during the pre-Independence era. "There are so many rules. And we have to strictly follow all of them" remarks a final year student. Reports of every single day missed are sent to parents via SMS, over 80% attendance needs to be maintained in every subject, Id-Cards have to be worn round the neck all the time, students can't bunk lectures and move out of the classroom or labs unless they wish to face the wrath of their principal, going out of the campus is out of question, formal clothing and dress codes need to be followed, mobile phones need to be kept inside lockers everyday, sports facilities can be used only after 3:30 pm and the list goes on. Moreover, defaulters having attendance between 65% and 75% have to shell out Rs. 2000-Rs. 3000 as fines, while those below 65% can expect to stay home for at least six months.

In its first few years of operations, St. Peter's Engineering College (SPEC) appears to have only built great infrastructure. Unusually high fees, unnecessary disciplinary rules, unsatisfactory faculty and an unclear placement scenario must be enough to deter you from enrolling here.
