Majority of the faculties here are good & students are pretty content with the education they receive. They teach in English as well as Tamil.

Campus is big. But the infrastructure is not up to the mark. Labs are well equipped. Many labs even have air-condition which are not operated most of the times. Frequent power cuts are witnessed by students. There's a generator for backup but it doesn't work. Library has got many books but students often are unable to find prescribed books.

Placement statistics are not impressive at SMK Fomra Institute of Technology. At the most 50% students get placed in campus as well as off-campus recruitments. Around 10-15 companies come to the college but students are not able to bag the jobs.

Around 35 km from Chennai central on OMR is SMK Fomra Institute of Technology. Traveling is time consuming but not cumbersome as it is compulsory to travel by college bus. Charges for this service are Rs 22,000 per year.

Hostel are bad. Hostel charges are Rs 55,000 a year. Overall the infra is decent but it needs maintenance as the college is 12 years old.

There's no separate canteen but the hostel mess serves as one. You get north Indian food here which is not liked by local students. Non-veg is also not there as it's a Jain college.

SMK Fomra Institute of Technology (SMKFIT) is among the lower rung colleges of Chennai. Location & placements are the major factors that go against it. From academic perspective it's a good choice. If you are a north Indian or you can mingle well with them only then join the college.
