The faculty at Jaya Engineering College (JEC) is certainly not the best around in town. However they aren’t bad either. Most of them aren’t highly qualified or have too much experience but students however are happy with whatever their teacher teaches; they have no issues with them. Students from northern states will have a lot of problems getting used to their drawl.

Jaya Engineering College has a huge campus with lush green play grounds which will definitely tempt any one to play on it. However contrary to one’s fancy, only the college team is allowed to play there. Moreover they are allowed to use it only post college hours. Other students need to go home obediently like school kids. The campus is shared with Sakthi Engineering College which has fewer students compared to JEC. When the Stupidsid team asked about college infrastructure, students seemed very much satisfied with it.

IT giants like TCS, Cognizant & Infosys are the main companies that visited the campus for recruiting. The average package offered is in the range of 2.5 to 3.5L. Only half the batch gets placed through campus interviews, others look for options off campus or plan for further studies.

Jaya Engineering College (JEC) is located in Thiruninravur area, 4km off the Chennai-Tiruttani Highway and around 34 km away from Chennai. Students use share autos to Nemilicherry bus station from where they can get buses to Avadi, from where they get many buses to the other areas of Chennai. There are local trains also available from Nemilicherry railway station but its frequency is very bad. College buses area also available for Rs 25,000 a year. Many students prefer college bus over public transport. The surrounding area is a silent semi-urban locality seemingly indifferent to the modernized and hustle and bustle of the city of Chennai.

Jaya Engineering College has two canteens but all that you get there is packed food. Oh sorry you get patties also, for which there is a huge demand. After trying it we can safely say that this demand is purely out of lack of choice and not because of the taste. One of the canteens looks very nice with tables under the shade of umbrellas, but sadly you don’t get the kind of food you would like to savour here.
It is hard to believe that such a place is not crowded during the lunch time, just 3-4 students sitting here and there.
Mess is usually very crowded during lunch time due to many hostelites. Mess food is very cheap but its taste makes you feel it not worth even the small amount you pay.

Jaya Engineering College is a Telugu minority institution so you shouldn’t be surprised if you find a lot of Andhra-ites here. There are many students staying in hostels & most of the other day scholars come from the nearby areas. It wouldn’t be wrong to call the crowd dry and sad. If you are looking to have fun along with studying engineering then this would certainly be a wrong college. However you have very limited options for that purpose in & around Chennai.

The college holds several technical conferences & symposiums, where majority of the participants are from Jaya Engineering College and just a few from nearby engineering colleges.

Attendance norm at JEC like most of the other Anna University colleges is very strict. Students falling short of 75% even marginally are dealt with very strictly. Formals are compulsory, even shirts with 2 pockets are not allowed. Mobile phones are also strictly not allowed but you still have some students breaking the rule.
There are extra classes for weak students free of cost.
