There is a stark difference between the senior and the junior faculties when it comes to being able to teach. The seniors are good and students respect them. But the trouble for students is when the junior (newer) teachers try to teach, but cannot connect at all. About 3 on 10 are senior professors, and the others relatively less experienced. The seniors have no rapport issues with the students, but students say some junior professors are bad natured. Some are even alleged to be picking on students against personal grudges they have. Now that’s bad! And some fail to complete the syllabus on time, before the semester end. But students say, they manage the studies by their own anyway.

Like most other colleges, SAL has a nice and big campus, with buildings spread out in blocks. Although it’s not huge, the campus does not appear to be crammed. Yet the classes are small and the design of the classes is such that it doesn’t prevent it from heating in the summers. The arrangement of the fans is such that it doesn’t help make the experience any better. To accommodate more students, classes have been divided into 2 parts with a partition in between, which means the switch for the fans in one section is located in the other section. So you can imagine the inconvenience students have to face. Basically it gets unbearably hot at times. Labs have separate blocks/sheds allotted for them. Yet not all the labs were equipped till until recently, equipment have started coming in. A few batches were still completely unexposed to the practical part of it, due to unavailability of this equipment. Library is big, spacious and moderately resourceful. Students say local author books, that they need during exams are not available, and even the reference textbooks are limited in number, which get issued before the exams. The faculties itself issues a lot of copies, and keep them through the semester, just making it difficult for students to avail the books.

No batch has been out yet, but the IDP (Industry Defined Project) records for this year have been good. Students of the ECE branch may have faced issues in getting core companies, but for the Mechanical it has been good. But the real placement scenario can only be known and understood once placements happen.

Located right opposite the Science City, on the Sola-Kalol Road, is the SAL campus. SAL institute of Technology & Engineering Research shares the campus with Pharmacy and a Management institute, and a hospital. Well the science city is such a huge landmark, and you need to get here is just follow the Science City boards you see everywhere in both the cities; Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. AMTC buses are the main transportation for students here. 65/2, 65/3, 66/3, 66/4 routers drop you at Science city, or on the Sarkhej – Gandhinagar highway bridge, from where students take another bus. It’s about 3 Km from SG Highway. Those from Gadhinagar find it convenient to use the S.P.Ring Road. Honestly the place is not the most convenient to reach, but students somehow manage. The buses are mainly for Arvind mills, more outward towards Moti Bhoyan area, and are generally crowded. About 30-40% students get their own vehicles to the college.

The college does not provide for any hostel, so students from outside the city have to manage PG or hostels on their own.

Canteen is small and compromised. There is not much variety of things that people can try. Also whatever little is available is just about edible, nothing great about it. Most carry their lunch from home, and rely on packet food at the canteen.

Right opposite the campus is the Science city, which second time onwards would stop fascinating you, and you will gladly discount it from your list of hangouts. There is nothing in the vicinity, and people would have to go to at least Iscon Circle (about 6km), where you can find plenty of options to eat, chill, watch movies and just spend time.

The crowd is humble, and decent. The overall boy to girl ratio is 70:30 but mechanical is an exception with no girls. The girls mix normally with guys, and the interaction is healthy. Guys from civil and mech departments are generally more united, and ECE has more nerds. Ragging is inexistent, and the crowd is overall decent, and well behaved. The area is safe for girls, but generally day gets over by 3:30 - 4 PM so there is no issue about it. About 50% students are sincere about studies, while the rest manage studies during the exams.

The tech fest conducted by the college is called ‘SALCON’; is a 2 day national level event held in February. ‘Panache’ is the annual cultural festival held in March, about a month after the Tech fest. People participate with zeal, and enjoy the days of the festival. Students from other city colleges do come over, but is not a big event for the city.

This one thing here is moderately strict and followed with rather flexibly. Students need to maintain about 70% or else they have to face the annoyance till the end of the semester, or even later. You may have to attend extra lectures during the Preparatory Leave (PL), and in the worst case ‘No VIVAs’ which means late VIVA’s, after everyone else’s. Not very harsh when it comes to attendance, and getting detained would be rare, and only the last resort when the attendance is meager. One thing about the college is that its conducts 2 mid-term exams and taking them is compulsory. Otherwise the college doesn’t have issues if you are late, and entering up to 15 minutes late to a lecture is accepted. Wearing I-cards on campus is also optional.

SAL Institute of Engineering & Tech. is relatively new, and with no batch yet placed, all you can do is wait for the placements of the first batch. The infrastructure setup is not conducive for education, and needs to be improved. Students manage the studies on their own, and relying just on the teachers could be risky. Absolutely not the choice of toppers, but you should really try for a better option if possible.
