About half of the faculties are just disliked by the students due to their ego or attitude issues which obviously affects learning too. With some too busy with their own research work, or some basically lack the skills required to teach well. The other half are in stark contrast, as they can teach well and have no ego issues of sorts. They are good teachers and good people to be taught by. People attend their lectures regularly not because they have to, but because they like to, and find them really knowledgeable. That was about the permanent faculties, and subjects that need industry professionals; are taken by visiting faculties and most are good, as they have a lot of knowledge of the area they are here to talk about. The better half of the permanent faculty is helpful, but the rest students feel bring down the levels set by PDPU itself. The faculties are said to be following a random pattern while marking students, which cannot be questioned. That is a factor that hinders development at a personal level. About 2/3rd of the class would abide by the randomness of the teachers to ensure good grades. At times even the strength of the faculties fall short, because of which they are rotated among different departments to make up for it.

Beginning with offering just the management course; the institute went on to become a private university just recently, back in 2007. The campus is well planned with separate buildings for the various school; School of Petroleum Technology (SPT), School of Technology (SOT), School of Liberal studies, School of Petroleum Management, School of Solar Energy & School of Nuclear Energy. The buildings look very modern with wide grass lawns all over adding to the serenity. Classes built in theatre style; are completely air conditioned, equipped with projector to assist the teacher. The entire campus is Wifi enabled, and connectivity on laptop is good, although people tend to face issues using the same on mobile phones. The speed is decent, but when not shared by many obviously faster, with restrictions on usage of some websites. The library is a good place to sit and study, and is resourceful too. SPT, SOT and SPM are the 3 libraries that students can make use of; but the students tend to face a shortage with the number of copies in stock. As it is usually observed, when a teacher recommends a book, students rush to issue them, and is hence un-available to the others.
An SBI Bank ATM takes care of the banking needs of the students on campus.

With only one batch out from the School of Petroleum Technology (SPT) and none yet from the School of Technology (SOT) much cannot be said about the trend in placements here. But to list the recruiters for the previous batch ONGC, Reliance, and GSPC were the major recruiters, in the Oil & Gas sector. Majority of the students got placed, in core companies. And as Petroleum Technology students, not many were interested in the Major MNC IT recruiters, and were looked down upon. But students certainly expect salaries of around 5 Lakh a year if not less, which is about the same as the average salary that is offered here. Notable placements were at ONGC & GAIL which offered a salary of 10.44 Lakh a year.
The training and placement cell is working hard and students have seen things happening, where companies are invited to the college and conduct seminars and drives. Students interested in Industry internships or research, are also assisted by the college. Apart from students opting for placements/job, around a 10% go for higher studies at PDPU itself or other foreign universities too.

Located off the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Highway, the road leading to the campus is itself called PDPU Road. Getting to the college from the Airport or the Railway stations can be a little painful experience as you might end up paying exorbitantly every time you travel. Located right beside the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), and the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) on the other side, the campus is located 3 Kms off the main road, and hence is pretty much cut-out from the activities of the city but is easy to locate with the convenient sign boards on the highway to guide you. But being a residential course you would never have to worry about daily travel to get to the college. Though some take the other option; they live as a Paying Guest around, but people stay ‘on-campus’ to save time, but sadly the current infrastructure cannot accommodate everyone in campus hostels.

The hostels provided by the institute are decent, and rooms work out on twin sharing basis. With common bathrooms, which need some attention now. The cleanliness issues need to addresses as the staff allotted for house-keeping is falling short.
students don’t find the facilities worth the amount they pay. Most are of the opinion that the cost is just too high. The hostel fees do not include Laundry and Food. For the food, is a very well managed canteen/mess. Spending a normal day at PDPU would involve taking lectures, and attending labs from 9am to 6pm. And then the hostels stay open till 11pm, and you have to be back by then, compulsorily.

The canteen area is good, and the space large. With LCD televisions around for entertainment while you satisfy your hunger. You get unlimited meals and breakfasts – nutritious & sumptuous. With a big menu on table, and wide variety which will ensure you would not get really bored with canteen food (unlike most other hostel messes). It feeds a thousand odd students every single day, and is certainly managed very well. Non-veg food is also served at the canteen, which might bring happiness to a lot of souls reading this. Although some might find the food slightly oily, but they get used to it with time.

6 Kms away from the campus is Infocity (An IT Hub) where you can find all the franchisee stores, subways, macs, and what not! And apart from that, frankly there is nothing much around in the city where you can hangout. People go to malls in and around Ahmedabad at times too. But basically the place is located such that it only discourages you to camp out. A visit to Infocity would cost at least Rs.150 for the travel.

50% of the seats are strictly for Gujarat students, and the rest are available for students all over the country, with valid AIEEE scores. You can see students from Assam, Kerala, Delhi and even from Jammu & Kashmir, so is absolutely mixed, with people diverse cultural & social backgrounds. But with a majority of students from Gujarat, that air is generally felt but there’s nothing bad about it. People gel with each other very well, and are all open minded, so no issues there. But the ratio of Boys to the girls is poor, with just about 10% girls around. But the School of Liberal Studies sees a completely opposite ratio.

The college is bustling with some or the other activity all-round the year. College generally doesn’t want to spend their own money, but the show goes on with the money from sponsors that have big budget. “Flare” is the technical cum cultural annual event of the college, which sees good participation from students and is very enjoyable. The campus has seen bands like Jal, and Agnee visit the campus during the festivals. Students of the university also participate at other colleges with enthusiasm.

The University is very particular about discipline when it comes to classroom learning and won’t tolerate anyone skipping lectures. 80% is the bare minimum you need to maintain over the semester else you are disqualified from the semester exam, which means a semester re-exam or a year drop (at worse). This you would want to avoid! You can’t be allowed even at 79% attendance, so that’s enough to judge about how particular they are about it.

Note: PDPU is NOT under GTU but a private university.
Students would advise juniors to not come here thinking of it as a great university, as it offers a specialized course in petroleum technology, your career you might have to manage yourself anyway. Many are disappointed with the state of administration and bureaucracy observed here. Students are suppressed at times when they raise voce about set standards not being met. Studies you have to manage yourself, but overall the life here is enjoyable nevertheless, with interesting people around and the hope of a rewarding job at the end.
