The faculty here comes from a focused academic background that is most relevant to the courses being offered over here. All are well qualified, and can teach well too. Although there are a few fresh, junior professors, but they teach well nevertheless. The senior faculties are very experienced and are very approachable.

CIPET is spread over an area of about 8 acres, which hosts all the academic workshops and the Laboratory blocks. The newly constructed building is very good and has all the facilities as per modern standards. The library system is up-to-date with books managed well, and it’s very easy to locate a book. The library also has digital learning facility setup which students are free to use. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, so you can access the internet wirelessly anywhere, works fine at most of the places. The laboratories are air conditioned. The classes are spacious and comfortable, and CCTV cameras are setup for surveillance.

In general the diploma students have had an option to taking up jobs after the course, as companies prefer taking them and training for 3 years (while pay might be same as graduates, experience counts), rather than taking graduates and spending 3 more years. This 3 year experience students say is more valuable to the company then the degree, but again there will always be those who want to graduate with a degree or study further or even for an educational status of being a graduate as a milestone in the career. Now the real stuff, companies visit the campus and take students as per their requirements. Many companies are local Ahmedabad companies, but have big operations, so no tension for a bright career prospect. Mother Dairy offers a packaging profile. Windsor Extrusion offers profiles in packaging machinery. There’s Parikh Packaging who also recruits students regularly. On campus job are better as they offer a better pay package, compared to off campus, guess that’s where the reputation of the institute counts. The college manages to place every student, lest a student want to not opt for a job. Average pay would be about Rs 25,000 a month, which is decent, and considering about a 100-120 plastic engineers pass-out every year, it’s hard to be jobless anyway. There are more industries that need plastic engineers than currently available, so prospects are shining.

The institute run by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals,(Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India) is very strategically located in the GIDC area with a huge campus and all the facilities in available in house. The campus located in Phase 4 of GIDC, is surrounded by manufacturing and production units of many companies into Plastics and Chemical Engineering. Although it’s far from Ahmedabad city, BRTS and AMTS buses connect till Jashoda Nagar, and from there it’s a shuttle rickshaw ride away. 60% students make use of public transport to get here, about 20% ride themselves to the college on their own bikes; remaining 20% are students from other cities who are put up in Hostels or PG’s near-by. Connectivity to the college is not an issue, being far from the city could be.

Hostel facility for girls and boys is available on campus itself, and is not bad at all, and the food at the mess also manageable. No positive efforts are seen towards providing sports facilities but students manage to participate at GTU sports meet. Labs are maintained well, and the practical sessions are very informative and knowledgeable.

The canteen is not up to the standards of the infrastructure of the institute. Although it’s mainly set up for the hostelites, so meals are not an issue. But otherwise apart from that there is not really much available. You get packet snacks and tea most of the time. Also the space of the canteen is an issue when at times it does get crowded and crammed for space. Samosas are decent, and Chinese dishes at time are really tempting. But when you’re in an industrial area, guess the college canteen would be your best bet.

Absolutely none. You have to get out of the industrial area, to at least Jashoda Nagar, and from there head anywhere you want. BRTS can take you around to most parts of the city.

The crowd here is very sincere with having taken up a very specialized and focused branch, not working hard and learning stuff only makes you a career killer. Students for the First year admission through GUJ-CET are obviously from Gujarat. But students taking admission directly into the second year after finishing a Diploma, come from all over the country, CIPET being an institute that is renowned all over the country. In a class 20% students would be from a diploma background. About 5% of the entire batch would constitute the girls, and in all 12-15 in the entire campus. Guess it’s generally not a girl thing this course, but they mix well, and interact normally.

Here it’s a pretty strict affair. When you enter the campus at 9am you need to make a note at the entrance with a signature and at 4pm when you leave. All these records go to the Chennai head office. You can’t leave the campus once in. You would rather prefer staying absent rather than making plans of attending half of the lectures for that day. Sorry it doesn’t work here. You need to maintain at least 80% attendance. In case you fall short, like up to 65-70% you would be made to compensate with extra assignments and attending extra lectures in the reading vacation. Only in worse cases are students detained back. Also there is a uniform to be followed.

Only 2 places where plastic engineering is offered in the entire state. So if you’ve prepared for taking up plastic engineering, it should be your top choice. All the lab apparatus and the complicated stuff the CAD/CAM and the typically technical stuff can be learned here well. A very good platform for learning hardcore industry level plastic engineering and practical exposure is appreciable. The only issue is the canteen and a decent campus, but it harms the learning in no way.
