Most of the teachers are senior and experienced but the students have the opinion that they aren’t as good as they had hoped. Students complain about many professors being lazy and uninterested in teaching. “All teachers are multiple degree holders, PhDs, doctorates but when it comes to mode of instruction, a lot of them fail” says a disappointed student. “About a third of the teachers are still good and we students are perhaps still here because of them” says another.

The campus is a huge one with lots of open areas, refreshing gardens and sports facilities underway. The hostels are also under the pipeline and will be opened to the students by this academic year.
However, there is a lack of proper parking space and the students are required to park their cars under the hot sun which turns their cars into furnaces during the summers. The library is common to all departments; it’s a two storey structure with enough space which, however, hasn’t been utilised appropriately and there are few places to sit and read books. There is wired internet connectivity in all the classrooms and labs and a fully Wi-Fi campus has been promised in the near future. All in all there has been an overall improvement in the infrastructure as compared to the old campus.

The scenario appears quite gloomy – few or NO companies visit the campus for placements in the core sector. Few others offer job profiles which have nothing to do with what students have learnt in their academic curriculum. After getting through a few years of slogging with biotechnology, any student would feel cheated accepting an IT job, and unfortunately that’s all that this college has to offer in terms of placements. Students are FORCED to join foreign universities for higher studies (though the college very conveniently absolves itself of any blame by claiming that they ‘opt’ for it).

University School of Bio Technology (USBT) is located inside the newly constructed and recently shifted campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) at Dwarka. It’s about one and a half kilometre from Dwarka Sector 14 Metro station on the Blue line and can be accessed in three ways namely a 15 minute walk, a rickshaw ride or a free bus ride provided by the University itself. So in terms of accessibility it’s not bad once you manage to reach the Metro station. However, students who have previously attended classes at the Kashmere Gate campus obviously feel that this one’s too far!

There’s just one canteen at the campus and except that there’s no other eating joint unlike other campuses which have small Nescafe or a Lipton stalls. The canteen is, however, big and roomy and serves varieties of tasty food at reasonable prices. The only issue is that, it’s common to all the University Schools and comes out to be a tad bit smaller during lunch time.

Step outside the college and there’s just endless stretches of road on side and the Metro station can be seen far off on the other. So if you’re planning to bunk just one lecture, the best place to spend time is the inside the campus itself. However, if you’re done for the day, numerous options crop up; Dwarka Sectors 3, 4 and 12 which offer classy snack joints, a variety of eateries and a mall at Rajouri garden and some others which you’ll figure once you’re in the college.

The overall atmosphere in the campus is very lively with beautiful girls hanging around with not-so-beautiful guys and the more handsome guys lingering around single (that’s the scenario everywhere, wonder what these girls are up to!) Talking about USBT in particular, most of them are studying here because they couldn’t get into MBBS, regretted that and NOW regret being here. Students from increasing years are increasingly unenthusiastic leaving out a few favourites of the teachers who happen to spend ample time buttering teachers.

The biggest festival celebrated at the campus here, 'Anugoonj' is the entire IP University’s festival wherein students of all the colleges under the IP University participate and create an atmosphere of unfathomable enthusiasm. Apart from that, festivals being organized by USBT itself are tiny compared to 'Anugoonj'; there’s a 1 day fest 'POIZE', some Science-Day and other pathetic little events. “It’s better NOT to have a fest, than have these kind of tiny little events with no participation even from the college folks” snarls a student.

At University School of Bio Technology (USBT) attendance is not an issue at all – a BIG relief for the students. They keep pestering students to attend lectures round the year, give empty threats to those having low attendance but finally at the end of the year, students with attendance as low as 10-20% are set free without any severe action.

Although University School of Bio-Technology is one of the most sought-after schools for the course it offers, it’s quite obvious that this is more because of the lack of other options than anything else. To quote a student, “There’s absolutely no light at the end of this terribly dark tunnel!”
