Although all the professors are highly qualified, they can be quite awful at times. HODs are really good but other professors can be irritatingly particular sometimes.  Teaching is mainly in Hindi, perhaps because they just aren’t comfortable speaking English. There are very few male professors, and none of them look good anyway.

The huge campus has a lovely football ground, and a couple of Basketball courts. The laboratories are quite okay, but the computer centre is very well maintained. However the classrooms are quite bad, and there are never enough books in the library.

Being one of the best all-women engineering colleges in India, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology has almost 100% placements. The average salary is about 4-5 lac, and students receive offers from some of the top companies of their fields. Mechanical students normally get placed in one of Honda, Maruti, Siemens, Mahindra and Mahindra, while IT and ECE students have a wider variety of options, with companies like Cdot, TCS, Infosys, Ericsson, Adobe and Microsoft among the hirers.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology is one of the few colleges which are still part of the old Indraprastha University campus, which is a ten minute walk from Kashmere Gate Metro station. Its central location in Old Delhi ensures that it is also quite accessible by buses and rickshaws. Although it has excellent connectivity there really isn’t anything else around.

There are disgusted sighs as soon as you mention Harish Hospitality, the caterers of the canteen. The food is terrible, especially the Chinese, where in you have temptingly named noodles of dangerous looking colours, which are sure to give you a world of diseases. Most day-scholars carry their food, while hostelites live on Maggi and spare time to thank god for the excellent (and very reasonable) Chole Kulche outside college.

There is a constant complaint of the lack of things to do around college. Even to find a parlour, girls have to travel all the way to Kamla Nagar, which is a place they love. You also find a lot of girls taking metros all the way to south Delhi or the DU north campus. Model Town and Civil Lines are also mentioned often.

All students are girls, of course. About 40% of the students are hostelites, out of which about 30% come from Bihar. There are many students travelling from different parts of the NCR on a daily basis. The one thing that brings many girls (from the Mech department, at least) is their passion for cars, and they spend ages trying to make them. So although the girls somehow manage to get along with each other pretty well, they are quite scared of the boys from nearby colleges, who can be quite rowdy. Getting out of the college alone must be avoided at all costs since the surrounding area isn’t exactly safe for girls.

Each branch hosts its own festival – ‘Xebec’ is hosted by Mechanical, while ‘Impulse’ and ‘Tremors’ by ECE and IT respectively. The cultural fest is called ‘Anugoonj’ and is actively participated in by colleges across Delhi.

Top Attendance Reviews ALL Attendance REVIEWS

Since it’s a girls college, most students are too sincere to allow their attendance to even fall below the 90% mark. However, if you do fall below 75% letters are sent home, and parents are sometimes called. No one has ever been detained yet, but we suspect that this is probably because they’ve never ever fallen below the stipulated university norm of 66%.

Definitely one of the top engineering colleges of Delhi, IGIT is known for having thousands of exams all the time. But the unequivocal opinion of all students is that it’s definitely worth the trouble.
