There are only two branches offered here: Plastics & Manufacturing. Faculties for both are experienced and they also teach very well.

The campus of CIPET Chennai was big enough when there was just diploma courses being offered. After starting with degree, they have increased the campus size and now its expanse is more than sufficient. There is no playground but students can use sports facilities at Anna University which is nearby. Labs have been equipped very well with best of the instruments. College library is very good and students can also make use of Anna University library housed in a separate campus nearby the college. Other facilities like classrooms, seminar halls and washrooms are also good in the newly constructed building for degree engineering.

Only core companies are invited for recruitments to CIPET. First batch of Manufacturing is not out yet. Placements for first batch of plastic engineering were very good. All the students were able to secure jobs but many opted for higher studies. Minimum salary was 16,000 per month while the higher range went up to 50,000 to 70,000 a month.

Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET), located in Guindy area of Chennai is one of the 16 & the oldest central government controlled academic institutions devoted to impart technical education in plastic engineering & allied fields. CIPET is one of the handful engineering colleges that are located within Chennai city. It is very well connected to the rest of the city by MTC buses and local trains. Guindy railway station is at walkable distance. Location is strategic from placements point of view as surrounding area is an industrial estate housing many industries which can be potential recruiters. Andd although not of much use to students, there are many five star hostels too nearby.

There are hostels available on campus as well as off campus. On-campus ones are old and aren't that good. But new ones are nice and comfortable. Mess food is damn cheap, full meals are available for just 15 bucks. Food is not very tasty but you can't expect a feast in this price.

There is no separate canteen, just the mess. As mentioned earlier it is inexpensive but food is rarely tasty.

There being only two branches of intake 60 each, campus is sparsely populated. Even the presence of students of diploma, MTech & PhD do not make it crowded. Majority of students (60%) are from Chennai. Remaining are from various parts of Tamilnadu and they stay in hostels. There are many girls in Plastics branch. But in Manufacturing male-female ratio is very much skewed.

There is a compulsory uniform for all the students. It comprises of formal pants and shirt embroidered with CIPET logo. 75% to 80% attendance is required to be able to take the exams. Students are not forced to attend lectures, nor are they given any warnings for low attendance. However, they are required to attend lectures on their own accord and maintain attendance, else they might be directly stopped from taking exam. Unlike most Anna University colleges, here the college environment is free. There aren't any restrictions on entry or exit from the campus. Even within the campus you are allowed to roam about. But girls and boys are not supposed to sit together in lecture.

CIPET is the only college in Chennai offering Plastics Engineering. So those interested in this particular course have no choice to join it. And it is certainly a good college for the course.
