RMK Engineering College boasts one of the finest faculties among all the Anna University affiliated colleges. The faculty members of all the departments are highly qualified with an experience of a good number of years behind them. There are at least 2 PhDs in each of the department.
Teachers are not very friendly and are rather very strict. Students don’t really share a good rapport with them; interaction apart from classrooms is rare.

It’s a mammoth campus even for Chennai standards. The campus is spread over a whopping 60 acres. Even though it is huge it is maintained well, with lush green lawns adding aesthetic beauty to the whole campus. The college has all facilities available inside the campus, from gym to even beauty parlours. The college has equal facilities for girls unlike other colleges where many times even a hostel for girls in not available. Infrastructure for sports is also brilliant with the huge cricket ground being the magnificent of all.

Placements at RMK are better compared to most of the other colleges in Chennai. The Placement and Training Cell provides training to all the students right from their first year. The number of students getting placed is increasing year by year. 2012 batch had 90% of the students placed.
Although the number of students placed here is high, most of the companies are IT companies with the like of TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCL. There are rarely any core companies coming here. And even if they do, they offer packages less than what IT companies offer.

RMK Engineering College is located on the NH5 near Kavaraipettai, approx. 40 km from Chennai northwards. The surrounding area of college is not at all developed. There’s just one element of civilization nearby - a bus station. The college maybe confused for a roadside motel. A fleet of 80 buses transports day scholars from the college to almost all the parts of Chennai. Most of the students use these buses as otherwise accessibility is a big issue.

There are around only 20% hostel-ites, others are coming from various parts of Chennai. RMK students are quite studious but also happen to do well in extra-curricular activities. Students here are ambitious about their career; which however doesn't translate into students being adept in engineering in any way. Students nevertheless do score well in the semester exams.
Many students who are good in sports are also admitted on their proficiency in sports.

Every department of RMKEC organizes its own technical symposium. Even though the festival is technical, there are just 2-3 events which are truly technical. You have the other usual LAN gaming and stuff as some of the events. Blitzkrieg, Osscillix, Hon-E-Ken are some of the symposiums held at RMK annually.

RMK is very particular in making sure that the students maintain an attendance above 75%. If a student's attendance tends to drop a bit, parents are called. Formals are compulsory, including the shoes; no sandals allowed. Shaving is compulsory, even stubble is unacceptable. Mobile phones are strictly not allowed in the campus and if found breaking the rules severe disciplinary actions are taken.
Student of RMK are provided with the college bags and it is mandatory to carry them.
