The college has faced issues in attracting professors, both in terms quantity and quality. There are just a few professors who have respectable qualifications. Student to faculty ratio is very poor.

The College campus is still under construction. The government has big plans for the campus infrastructure and it could turn out to be a landmark if the plans are followed. Classrooms and labs are good. There is internet facility in a few labs. Many labs for various departments are still unavailable. The library is relatively big and has good number of books. There are no sports facilities available yet.

No private company visited the campus for the first batch during the academic year 2012-13. University Entry Scheme (UES) rounds of the Indian Army were held in the campus during the academic year 2012-13. The college has a academic partnership with Bharat Forge and 6 students were shortlisted but not selected.

Government College of Engineering and Research (GCOEARA) is located in Avasari, a small village about 3 km from Manchar and about 65 km away from Pune City, on Pune - Nashik highway. Being very inaccessible and remote, it’s almost impossible for students from Pune to daily shuttle between home and college. Even for hostelites life is not too smooth as they would have to travel to Manchar for their basic daily needs like stationary and groceries. Thankfully buses and autos ply from Manchar to the college at a fairly decent frequency.

There is no college Canteen at present. The hostel mess can be described in just one word – pathetic.

No decent hangouts nearby. There are a few eateries nearby, but they won’t be able to exactly satisfy your taste buds.

Being located in a rural backdrop far from urban civilizations, 90% of the crowd is rural. There are many localites; some of them are famous for their rowdy and rough mannerisms and sometimes indulging in fights. The boy to girl ratio is also very poor - around 5:1.

The college has its technical festival known as ‘Abinitio’ held sometime around March. Participation is limited to students of this college only. There is also a cultural festival known as ‘Resonance’, held in Feb.

Attendance is not an issue. Again that varies from department to department. The Computer, E&TC departments are really strict about it whereas Civil, Mechanics and others don’t have much of an issue.

Government College of Engineering and Research - Avasari (GCOEARA) is under development stages. The first few batches are suffering a lot, but the long term plans, if materialized, will take college great distances. Currently it is advisable to take this college only if you stay nearby and don’t have other options.
