MIT has always been known for its great faculty. The faculty members have good qualifications and do have a good number of years’ experience behind them. Aeronautical faculty is one of the best in the state. You might sometimes face a problem understanding what they teach because the teachers usually won’t really push anyone. Unless you yourself are interested, you might get done with engineering and still not have an iota of what you studied. But yes, those willing to learn will find MIT a perfect college.

MIT is housed in the Anna University campus at Chrompet. The campus is divided into the academic block (also called main campus) and annexure blocks separated by about a 100 meters. The academic block - as the name suggests - houses various department buildings containing classrooms, labs, workshop, libraries and all the other academic facilities that may be needed. The annexure block contains the play grounds and the hostels. MIT campus is smaller than the Anna University Guindy campus. However it is small just in comparison; for all practical purposes its expanse is more than sufficient. The college was built in 1949 and it can be seen by the exteriors of the buildings. Although the building is old, in an almost dilapidated condition, the labs are well equipped and do have modern equipment contrary to many other engineering colleges in Chennai. There is a well-established book bank system on the campus. Going through this campus will take you half a century back. The entrance to the college is beautiful and it can qualify to be called a boulevard. There is also a college museum to cherish the past events and milestones of the college.

Madras Institute of Technology students have common placements with the students of CEG and happen at the Guindy Campus. Usually the college manages to get all its students placed. Average package offered here is of 4 Lakh, which is higher than most of the engineering colleges. There are both IT and core companies coming but IT companies outnumber the core ones.
Students claim that they have seniors in Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook, who recommend other students from MIT.

Madras Institute of Technology or popularly called MIT is located in Chrompet, a southern suburb of Chennai located on GST. The college is easily accessible from the rest of the city by road and rail. Chrompet station is located at a stone's throw distance from MIT making local trains a natural choice of commuting for many of the day scholars. Unlike all the private colleges, MIT, which is a government college, doesn’t have any bus service. This in no way is a deterrent for students to opt for this college. The college has a good connectivity to the rest of the city by MTC buses too.

Hostels are decent considering it’s a government college. There are air-conditioned rooms also which are available to only NRI students.

MIT canteen isn’t very good but when you compare it to many other colleges where you just get packed stuff, this is like heaven. The canteen food is decent, don’t expect ambrosia, but yes you do get a good variety.

At MIT you will find students who are studious as well as active in extra-curricular activities. The outside world does call most of the MIT students as nerds, which most of the MIT-ians are proud of.
You will see enthusiasm among the students during the number of fest being organized at MIT. Due to the lack of extreme strictness life here can be fun. Nice bonding amongst Juniors & Seniors is a distinguished characteristic here.

Every department holds its own technical symposiums. Most of them are inter-college barring a few which are intra-college. Flight, Auto-meet, Prayatna, Samhita, Electrofocus, Intecho, Expro, Elastoplaz are the various technical symposiums conducted on the campus.
Cultural activities like Sivaranjani & MITAFEST are also organized annually by students.

Just like CEG & AC Tech, MIT is also not so strict when you compare it to the private colleges of Chennai. 75% attendance is necessary but can be relaxed a bit. Formals aren’t compulsory but t-shirts are a strict no. Surprisingly this is one of those few colleges where girls and boys can interact freely.

Unless you get CEG or IITs, no other reason should stop you taking MIT. One of the top engineering colleges in Chennai. You won’t be spoon fed here like most of the private colleges; you will have to take care of your studies by yourself.
