The faculty is impressive; at least they have made an impression on the students. The faculty is not too friendly, nor too strict. They get along well with the students. The students are even taken for an industrial visit during their course, although it is just a day visit.

The road to Loyola Institute of Technology is not constructed; it is in a very bad condition. The college has huge grounds and the college building and interiors are not appealing. Overall it looks like just another college on NH4. Labs have much non-functional equipment which are neither replaced nor repaired.

Only IT companies visit the campus. Most of the core branch students have to find their placements off campus. No help provided by the college.

Loyola Institute of Technology (LIT) is located just next to its sister institute DMI College of Engineering. It is on the outskirts of Chennai, on NH4 near Nazarethpet post. The college is approximately 30 km from the center of Chennai. The college is just about 15 minutes’ drive from Poonamallee, a western suburb of Chennai. There aren’t many MTC buses going all the way to college but there are many buses from Poonamallee to the rest of the city. Most of the students take a bus to Poonamallee and then another bus. The college does provide bus service but most of the students don’t prefer using them.

Hostels are decent, just a notch above the mark which would classify it as bad. The tiny rooms are shared by 3 people. Toilets, which at times are a major factor while deciding on the hostels, are bad. Many of the doors don’t have knobs so you better be prepared to sing while you attend the nature's call.

Canteen food is surprisingly decent. You have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

One third of the students are from outside the city and consequently hostel dwellers. These students are from the South Indians states only. The rest are from the suburbs of Chennai. Loyola does have a few North Indian students too, who initially find it difficult to adjust here but later they mingle well with the locals. If you are from a liberal school of thought then you might find it difficult to adjust to the environment here.

There are technical symposiums happening at DMI College of Engineering but they aren’t lucrative enough to attract much participation from other colleges. There is no cultural festival happening here. However, there are Christmas celebrations happening, if that in anyway provides compensation for not having cultural festival.

Attendance is quite strict, as per the Anna University norms you are supposed to maintain your attendance above 75%. Now a deterrent to bunk - the college imposes a fine on attendance falling below 75%. And if the attendance falls below 65% then the defaulter is detained.
Students of Loyola have an unusual complaint, they lament about how only the 1st years get a PT period and they don’t. Yes if it reminds you of your school then you know what you are in for at Loyola.
Formal clothing is very strictly governed by some of the rules like light coloured shirts should be worn along with dark coloured trousers only. Since it is an institute which is governed by the sister of DMI, discipline and values are paid high attention.

Don’t confuse Loyola Institute of Technology (LIT) with the Loyola-ICAM, both of them are run by different managements and are not related in any way. You should think of taking admission here, if at all, only for EEE or Mech.
