The faculty here is decent. Definitely not among the best, but decent. It has a mixture of few experienced with many fresher. Many of the students on completing engineering join the college as teachers. Some of the qualified faculty do know their stuff but are not able to impart much knowledge to students.

You may get impressed with the number of convincing full size models of airplanes. When taking views of students, they complain that the management has only paid attention to the exterior and hasn’t taken care of the lab equipment or the actually necessary stuff. The instruments in lab don’t work most of the time and even if they work, there are frequent power cuts.
Library is huge but not very well stocked, students are not very happy with it. There are several sports grounds on the campus and students are spotted once in a while using them.

There aren’t many core companies coming. Many IT firms do visit the campus but a very few students take up the jobs. Most of them go for masters abroad. Average salary offered is around 3 Lakh.

The university campus is located in Padur village on outskirts of Chennai. The campus is on the highway but very far from Chennai, around 30 km on OMR. There are a few buses plying on OMR which the students don’t prefer much. It takes around an hour to reach the college from the city. There is no train station nearby. College does provide bus service.
Most of the students travel by their private vehicles.

Hostels aren’t good at all. There are very few rooms available and many a times there is crises in accommodating students. The hostel food is not liked by students. And all this doesn’t come cheap.

Hindustan has a canteen run by 'Archana Restaurant', which doesn’t really serve great food for the amount it charges. It definitely isn’t value for money.

“Misery loves company”, this was the first thing that the students had to say. Students aren’t very studious or more precisely not nerds. The students here love to hangout but poor guys have no option but to chill inside the campus itself as they aren’t allowed to go out of the campus till the college is over. Most of the students studying here are from the North India; not many from the southern part of the country. Over all there are few girls in core engineering branches but then you do find many girls in IT branches. Not to mention that the students studying here are quite rich.

There are many events happening on the campus but none of them are on a big scale. Most of the festivals are intra-college and do not get enough crowd from the college also.

Attendance isn’t very strict here but on defaulting to maintaining 75% will attract a fine. It isn’t as strict as Anna University affiliated colleges. You do find many students not wearing formals, which is a rare sight in engineering colleges of Chennai. You can also roam around in campus but at your own risk. If you are caught by watchmen or other staff who are patrolling the campus you might get in trouble.

Note: Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) / Hindustan University is a private university and not affiliated to Anna Univeristy.
It is a private university, so do consider the returns on investment ROI and weigh with other options available. There are other better private universities that should be definitely considered.
