Almost all the teachers here are the ones who have recently finished their graduation (BE) from universities like Nagpur University or North Maharashtra University and have directly taken up teaching. Their knowledge of the subjects they are taking is limited to textbooks and English communication is quite poor. The situation is similar in all departments. Thus the students are forced to do self-study and not rely much on their teachers. This eventually shows up their results and many students fail miserably.

The campus is nothing to boast about. College really needs to work on its infrastructure. Basic educational facilities like classrooms, labs and library are there but they are not up to the mark. No part of college is air-conditioned and a few classes and labs even lack fans. Labs lack quite many equipment but college assures that they are being purchased and will arrive soon. Computer department has better labs compared to others where there are new, fast PCs which have broadband internet too! Library is there for the sake of it and hardly any student is seen going there.

Sharadchandra Pawar College of Engineering (SPCOE) is located amidst hills and farms in an extremely remote and rural place in Pune district called Dumberwadi. It is about 3 km off the National Highway 222 which runs from Kalyan to Nirmal (Andhra Pradesh). Though being in northern part of Pune district, it is approximately at same distance of 100 km from Kalyan & Pune. The only mode of transportation to the college from Pune city or Kalyan is by state transport (ST) buses or by private vehicle. The main disadvantage of ST buses is that they drop you on the highway and one has to walk the remaining distance to college due to unavailability of rickshaws. The in-road is in pathetic condition and could be used as a track in dirt bike racing someday.

Sharadchandra Pawar College of Engineering (SPCOE) provides hostel facility in the 5km distant village-town of Otur. They only look good from outside, inside there is a big time shortage of space. Up to 8 people have to cramp up in a block. Also there is serious water and power shortage. Mess food is disgusting. Other residing options include renting out flats between 3 to 4 people which turns out to be economical.

There is no canteen in college. Local students get tiffin from their homes which they have to eat under the shades of trees in the adjoining farms. Hostelites can fix a tiffin service in which they can get hygienic home-made food at affordable prices.

There is nothing nearby college as it is located amidst farms and hills unless you are fascinated with ‘village-tourism’. However there are many tourist spots nearby like Ozar and Lenyadri Ganpati temples, Shivneri fort and Malshej ghats.

Crowd is totally rural except for a few unfortunate students from Mumbai who had no other option due to their low scores. There is not much of a campus life and in college too uniform is compulsory.

There’s a district level cricket tournament organized annually. Apart from that no other college festivals or cultural events or annual days are celebrated. Well they do celebrate Shree Sharad Pawar's birthday and you get free cake that day, if that’s a consolation.

Top Attendance Reviews ALL Attendance REVIEWS

Attendance is an issue that varies as per subject or the teacher taking it. All the HOD's are very strict about it but there are also many teachers, especially the freshers, who are least bothered about it. Those students who fail to keep 75% attendance, feature in a defaulters list and are supposed to make up for their lack of attendance by paying up fines which can go up to huge amount depending on how low your attendance is. Other than attendance they also try to loot money from students at every opportunity that comes up. “Looking at the present condition of college and infrastructure, God knows where all the money that we pay goes?” wonders a student!

Life at Sharadchandra Pawar College of Engineering (SPCOE) is very difficult especially if you come from an urban background. Even otherwise you shouldn’t expect very good education out here. Only those scoring very low in entrance exam should look for this college.
